A prominent Russian official has raised concerns about a potential escalation to World War Three with recent threats directed at Britain. Dmitry Rogozin, a senator with a background in warfare and former deputy premier and space agency chief, has indicated plans to target over 20 British defense-related locations.
In a recent development, Rogozin shared a map outlining 23 defense sites, including military and industrial facilities spread across the UK’s four nations. The map was sourced from the UK government’s ‘Defence Industrial Strategy 2025: Making Defence an Engine for Growth’ policy paper.
This alarming message follows remarks by former British defense secretary Ben Wallace, who advocated for strategies to render Crimea uninhabitable from a Russian perspective. Additionally, propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, known for scripted TV rants linked to the Kremlin, emphasized the potential destruction of identified targets in Britain.
While the likelihood of Russia carrying out such threats remains low, the recent warnings have prompted British residents to contemplate the implications of a nuclear strike and how to maximize survival chances. Dr. Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek Group plc, advised on precautions in case of a nuclear attack, stressing the importance of seeking shelter and minimizing exposure to fallout.
Experts suggest that being outside the immediate blast zone would offer the best odds of survival in the event of a major city being targeted. Various factors, including radiation and blast radii, play a crucial role in determining the impact of a nuclear explosion. Recommendations for safer locations away from blast zones have been identified, with remote areas like the island of Foula in the Shetland Isles potentially offering the highest level of safety in the UK in such a scenario.
