The UK’s military and nuclear capabilities were criticized by the Russian foreign minister in a recent verbal assault on the country. Sergei Lavrov, aged 75, resurfaced after being away from the public eye due to reported issues with arranging a summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, as well as rumored health concerns.
In his remarks, Lavrov targeted Britain as the top enemy of the Kremlin for rallying Western support for Ukraine. He highlighted the diminished economic and military strength of the UK, including its nuclear arsenal, which he claimed is not fully under their control. Lavrov accused Britain of resorting to traditional tactics of division and manipulation globally.
Lavrov also referenced FSB security service allegations that Ukrainian intelligence and MI6 conspired to defect a MiG-31 warplane crew and a hypersonic missile. While these claims are seen as propaganda, Lavrov criticized London for allegedly provoking such incidents. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine expressed urgency in acquiring 25 Patriot air defense systems from the US to counter ongoing Russian aerial attacks causing widespread disruptions in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy acknowledged the cost and manufacturing time for the Patriot systems but suggested European countries could lend their systems to Ukraine temporarily. This move aims to address the immediate threat posed by Russian aggression without delay.
