Queen’s scathing comment about Trump’s marriage to Melania resurfaces before inauguration

Must read

A critic of Donald Trump has recalled the moment the late Queen reportedly issued a scathing remark about the President-elect’s marriage to his wife, Melania Trump.

Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States at 12pm local time today (5pm GMT Monday, January 20) at the Capital Rotunda in Washington DC. The ceremony will be attended by international leaders, four former presidents and tech moguls including Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook and TikTok‘s Shou Chew after the app was briefly banned in the US before being reinstated hours later.

Melania will also be in attendance. The soon-to-be First Lady was a visible supporter of her husband in the lead-up to the election and even launched her debut memoir during last year’s campaign.

However, Melania’s appearance has reminded some critics of an unflattering comment reportedly made by Queen Elizabeth II about the former President and his wife. According to the 2024 book A Voyage Around The Queen by Craig Brown, the late monarch – who hosted Trump twice during her reign – remarked that he was “very rude.”

“She particularly disliked the way he couldn’t stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting,” the book said, allegedly quoting from a conversation the Queen had with a lunch guest “weeks” after Trump’s departure. It is also said Her Majesty alleged Trump and his wife had an “arrangement.”

Professor Anthony Glees of the University of Buckingham, told The Mirror “Our own beloved late Queen seems to have believed that she and Trump had ‘an arrangement’, doubtless of a pecuniary kind, to stay together.

“In her own way, Melania too has lived the America dream. From the backwoods of Slovenia, to the wife of the most powerful man in the world, now with a personal wealth fund that will see her and her family in the clover for the rest of their lives, what’s not to like?”

He also backed the late monarch’s claims about the couple’s marriage, claiming Her Majesty “got it in one.” Speaking of Melania’s upcoming second stint as First Lady of the United States, Glees added: “She doesn’t actually have to share her life with Trump. 2024 has made Melania great again, even if it won’t do the same for America.”

Last night, hours before his inauguration, Trump attended a victory rally at Washington’s Capital One Arena, where he addressed 20,000 MAGA supporters. He said: “At noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride.

“Bringing it all back once and for all. We are going to end the reign of a failed and corrupt political establishment in Washington, a failed administration. We achieved the most epic political victory our country has ever seen.”
