Queen Camilla shared personal stories about her family’s health challenges during the inauguration of a new emergency unit at a hospital. Speaking with the staff at NHS Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, Her Majesty mentioned that her grandchildren had frequented the hospital, becoming regular visitors.
She expressed familiarity with the hospital’s care, recalling instances when her daughter sent pictures from the facility. Camilla, who also disclosed giving birth to her daughter Laura at the hospital, commended the staff’s dedication and the quality of care provided.
During her visit, Camilla toured the hospital’s expanded urgent and emergency care unit, which received a substantial £33.5 million investment. The facility now includes specialized cubicles for major injuries, improved privacy with glass doors, and enhanced resuscitation capabilities.
Interacting with patients and staff, Camilla expressed gratitude for their hard work and dedication. She engaged with young patients like Ayda Nicholson and Jackson James, offering words of comfort and encouragement.
Additionally, Camilla visited the Children’s Emergency Unit, the first of its kind on the hospital site, where she met young patients and their families. She concluded her visit by unveiling a plaque commemorating the hospital’s new development and interacting with well-wishers outside.
The royal visitor was met with a large crowd cheering and waving as she departed for her next engagement. Camilla took time to greet as many well-wishers as possible before leaving the hospital premises.
