The Metropolitan Police is currently investigating new allegations involving Prince Andrew, following the release of a controversial email suggesting that the former Duke tried to tarnish the reputation of Virginia Giuffre, his accuser.
Despite vehemently denying any wrongdoing, Prince Andrew has faced accusations of engaging in sexual activities with Virginia when she was 17, who had accused Jeffrey Epstein. His association with Epstein, a convicted sex offender, has overshadowed his position within the Royal Family.
Having withdrawn from public duties five years ago, Prince Andrew has now voluntarily renounced his titles and honors with the approval of his elder brother, King Charles III. In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, Prince Andrew stated that he will no longer use his titles “to prioritize his duty to his family and country.”
Recent revelations of alleged misconduct have surfaced, making it challenging for the Royal Family to address the ongoing concerns surrounding Prince Andrew. Reports claim that Prince Andrew allegedly instructed his Met bodyguard, at taxpayers’ expense, to investigate Virginia, sharing her personal information in an attempt to discredit her.
According to the Mail on Sunday, in February 2011, Prince Andrew emailed the press secretary of Queen Elizabeth II, mentioning Virginia’s potential criminal record and providing her personal details for investigation. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that they are actively examining these allegations.
Family members of Virginia, who have denied her having a criminal record, have criticized the alleged attempts to tarnish her reputation. They are now calling for an investigation into how Prince Andrew acquired her private information.
During a broadcast, Victoria Derbyshire shared the Metropolitan Police’s decision to look into claims that Prince Andrew instructed his bodyguard to gather information on Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual misconduct. This news was met with approval by Emily Maitlis, the BBC Newsnight presenter, known for her impactful interview with Prince Andrew in 2019.
