Police have initiated an inquiry into the unexplained deaths of a social media influencer and her teenage daughter, whose bodies were discovered after concerns were raised by neighbors.
Lidiane Aline Lorenco, aged 33, and her 15-year-old daughter, Miana Sophya Santos, were tragically found deceased in their apartment on the 11th floor following worries expressed by residents about their well-being.
After a period of not seeing or hearing from the mother and daughter, neighbors reported a foul smell emanating from their residence.
The Fire Department responded to the apartment building in Rio de Janeiro and, upon receiving no response, forcibly entered the premises. Local reports indicate that Lidiane was found in a bedroom and Miana in the living room, both having been deceased for some time, as per police assessments.
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police released a statement mentioning their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Lidiane, who had a significant following of over 54,000 on Instagram, was known as an influencer and model, and had been pursuing medical studies before her demise.
Having relocated independently to Rio de Janeiro from Santa Cecília a few years earlier, Lidiane was a known figure in the social media sphere. Miana, on the other hand, had been attending the Irma Irene Basic Education School in Santa Cecília and had recently moved into the Rio apartment with her mother.
In a separate incident, the family of a woman who tragically passed away in a scalding bathtub with her partner has expressed concerns over the mysterious circumstances of her death.
Ana Carolina Silva, a 41-year-old nail salon owner, and her partner, military officer Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, aged 37, were discovered deceased in a motel room in Sao Jose, Brazil, on August 11.
The couple had celebrated their daughter’s fourth birthday at a food park during the day, followed by a night of partying at a nightclub. Subsequently, they dropped off their child at Jeferson’s sister’s house before checking into the Dallas Motel around midnight. Last seen around 11:30 pm, they failed to pick up their daughter the next day, prompting family members to raise the alarm.
Upon investigation, authorities found the couple deceased in the motel’s bathtub, with no evident signs of physical harm. The water in the tub had reached a scorching temperature of 50°C, with a space heater set to high, according to police reports.
A toxicology report indicated the presence of cocaine and high levels of blood alcohol in both Jeferson and Ana. Investigators, after reviewing CCTV footage and the couple’s vehicle, concluded that they had lost consciousness in the hot bathwater.
Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza confirmed that the cause of death for both individuals was exogenous poisoning, leading to heatstroke, severe dehydration, thermal collapse, organ failure, and eventual demise.
The toxicology report highlighted that the combination of substances, alcohol, and extreme heat amplified the risks. Sixteen forensic tests conducted by the Civil Police ruled out potential causes of death such as electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or foul play.
Despite the findings, Ana’s family expressed concerns about the possibility of coerced drug ingestion and demanded a thorough investigation to ensure justice. They vehemently denied Ana’s involvement in drug use and questioned the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
The family emphasized the importance of preserving Ana’s memory and dignity, seeking transparency in the investigation process to uncover the truth and dispel any unwarranted speculations.
In response to the case’s conclusion by the authorities, the family reiterated their commitment to seeking answers and ensuring justice prevails, rejecting any unfounded assumptions that might tarnish Ana’s legacy.
