The latest assessment of UK broadband services has revealed a surprising champion. Plusnet, a subsidiary of BT, emerged victorious in the annual awards presented by Broadband Genie, outperforming major players like BT, Sky, and Virgin Media.
Plusnet secured the coveted title of ‘best’ broadband provider, alongside accolades for being the Most Reliable Provider and Most User-Friendly. According to Alex Tofts, a Strategist at Broadband Genie, Plusnet’s appeal lies in its straightforward broadband-only deals, devoid of extravagant extras like TV or phone bundles.
In addition to Plusnet’s success, Broadband Genie recognized several other outstanding performers. Virgin Media clinched the title of Fastest Widely Available Provider, while Three, Vodafone, and Virgin received awards in various categories.
The survey also highlighted areas for improvement within the industry. Customer service satisfaction levels were notably low, with Direct Save and Zen Internet falling below the average. Value for money was another concern, with providers like Virgin Media, BT, TalkTalk, and Sky Broadband trailing behind in customer satisfaction.
Tofts emphasized the pressing need for regulatory intervention to address issues such as mid-contract price increases, urging Ofcom to ban such practices. The awards ceremony provided valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of broadband providers, shedding light on areas that require attention and enhancement.
