Only Fools and Horses star James Buckley shares career move away from acting

Must read

James Buckley, the actor famous for playing young Del Boy in the BBC prequel Rock and Chips and Jay Cartwright in the E4 hit series The Inbetweeners, dropped some intriguing career news while on James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen with his other half Clair Meek.

The couple joined ITV’s celebrity chef James Martin yesterday, where they chatted about their cheeky podcast In Sickness and in Health as he rustled up some scrumptious grub for them.

They got candid about the podcast, which kicked off in September 2023, confessing that much of what they recorded was probably a bit too risque for daytime telly although Martin gave it the thumbs-up as “very funny”.

Aside from podcasting, Buckley, 37, touched upon a rather unexpected business idea that would whisk him away from the acting scene, reports the Express.

He told Martin, 52: “That’s another thing as well. I’m always looking for something else to do rather than be an actor.”

The host then probed: “So what’s next on the horizon? What’s been the whackiest one?”

Buckley shared his brush with the taxi industry, explaining: “I was very close to investing into a fleet of cabs. I wanted to get into that. I wanted to get into the taxi game for a little while.”

Delving into details, he said: “I thought, if I bought about four or five black cabs, I could rent them out, all you got to do is maintain them and things like that.”

“That’s quite a lot of work though – insurance and stuff like that…” Martin chimed in.

“Yeah, but I don’t have to do any actual work,” Buckley declared assuredly. “I don’t have to drive them myself. Although, I do think I’d be a good taxi driver as well.”

Curious, Meek then quizzed him: “Would you charge more because you’re off the telly?”

“No, absolutely not,” he stated, prompting chuckles from Martin.

Yesterday, Martin whipped up a ‘hearty and warming’ beef and ale pie, teeming with tender morsels of slow-cooked beef in a sumptuous ale and red wine gravy, neatly encased in crisp, golden puff pastry. He accompanied it with sweet, glazed carrots cooked gently with star anise.

As Buckley gazed hungrily at the feast before him while Martin was putting it all together, he couldn’t resist confessing his eagerness to dig in.

Other delectable treats Martin rustled up on today’s show included Welsh Rarebit with Bacon and Chutney, along with what he bills as his ‘Best Ever Bacon Butty’.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs every Saturday at 9.30am on ITV.
