A tragic incident occurred in Brooklyn on Saturday night as a New York City firefighter, Patrick Brady, lost his life while battling a massive fire. Brady, a dedicated 11-year veteran of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), suffered cardiac arrest on the roof of a burning building located at 9407 Kings Highway in East Flatbush. Responding to a fire reported on the sixth floor, Brady was part of an “all-hands” team that rushed to the scene following residents’ alerts.
Despite immediate efforts by fellow firefighters and emergency personnel to treat Brady, he was swiftly transported to Brookdale University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Additionally, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Mayor Eric Adams commended the bravery displayed by firefighters like Brady, highlighting the risks they undertake to safeguard others. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker expressed the FDNY’s deep sorrow over the loss of Brady, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to public service and firefighting.
Tragically, Brady’s passing marks the second FDNY member fatality in the line of duty within a fortnight, as mentioned by FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra during a press briefing. He leaves behind his wife, Kara, and two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, both also serving as FDNY firefighters.
