Must read

A newly born infant, still connected to her umbilical cord, was discovered abandoned on the steps of a bustling train station during the morning rush hour on Monday. Police reported that the baby girl was found at approximately 9:30 a.m. near the entrance of the southbound 1, 2, and 3 subway trains at the 34th Street–Penn Station stop in New York City.

Upon the discovery, a passerby immediately contacted emergency services, leading to a prompt arrival of first responders. The baby was conscious and responsive when taken to Bellevue Hospital, where medical authorities confirmed she was in stable condition.

Authorities are currently examining surveillance footage in the area in an attempt to identify the individual responsible for leaving the child. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow referred to the event as the ‘Miracle on 34th Street,’ noting the timely response to the anonymous report of an unattended infant at the station.

This incident follows an investigation initiated after another newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a cardboard box by a passerby at the side of a road around 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24. The baby, believed to be only a few hours old, was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed her good health, as reported by the Associated Press. The newborn, estimated to be less than a day old, had already had her umbilical cord severed.

The baby was discovered in Tuguegarao City, Philippines, as per a statement released by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Facebook. May Asuncion, a social worker from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, mentioned that the baby is currently stable but will undergo monitoring at the hospital for up to five days to ensure her ongoing well-being.

Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the quick actions of local citizens and authorities in responding to the situation, emphasizing the value of every life and the PNP’s commitment to identifying the individual who abandoned the child.
