Donald Trump will be supported by Nelly when he’s sworn in as President again later today.
The rapper joins the likes of Village People, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood, Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus as part of Trump’s second inauguration at the US Capitol. The event has been moved inside for the first time in decades due to the cold weather.
However, before the event, Nelly has responded to the criticism he has received due to his decision to participate. Trump has been surrounded in countless controversies countless falsehoods, links with Russia, possible obstruction of justice, alleged payments to a porn star, separating immigrant families, and allegations of golden showers. His response to the coronavirus pandemic was also slated.
But what do we know about Nelly? We’re here to bring you everything you need to know.
The musician has a net worth estimated to be around $70 million USD, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Music has been the main source of Nelly’s icome. His debut album, Country Grammar, which was released in 2000, was a massive hit, selling over 10 million copies globally. This early triumph paved the way for a lucrative music career. His following albums, including Nellyville and Suit, have also added to his fortune.
These albums have not only sold millions of copies but have also earned Nelly multiple Grammy Awards, further cementing his status and financial success.
Ashanti, 43, married Nelly, the 49-year-old ‘Hot In Herre’ hitmaker, in December 2023. Last year, they welcomed their son, Kareem, into the world but initially kept his birth underwraps for just over a month. A spokesperson for the couple gushed to People magazine in August: “Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024. The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!”
The singer, who was first romantically linked with Nelly from 2003 to 2013 and rekindled their relationship a decade later, recently admitted to ‘Entertainment Tonight’ that she was “shocked and happy and emotional” upon discovering her pregnancy. She said: “I was so shocked and happy and emotional. I always dreamed about it.I wanted it so, so bad and I just feel like the timing was perfect.”
Back in April last year, Ashanti revealed the news to her Instagram followers as she posted a video of herself just before taking to the stage. Someone asked her how much time she needs to get ready and when her mother, Tina Douglas, checked in again, Ashanti came out from behind the curtain and said: “I’m gonna need about nine months.”
To some, the announcement was just a confirmation since many fans suspected that she was pregnant after she first hinted they were expecting in December. A video of the two from Nelly’s 11th Black and White Ball went viral and showed Nelly placing his hand on Ashanti’s stomach and she makes a heart over it. The two then laughed and rushed off the stage. Ashanti and Nelly rekindled their relationship in 2023.
Speaking to Geto Boys’ Willie D, Nelly argued that “the things you do” are more important than “the things you say should be done”. He said: “I didn’t know that I had to agree with your political choices.
“If you follow what I do, this shouldn’t even be an argument. He is the president. He won. I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this because it’s an honor. I respect the office. It don’t matter who is in office. The same way our brothers and sisters go to war to put their life on the line for whoever is in office. So, if they can put their life on the line for whoever is in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever is in office.”
Nelly responded to the criticism of potentially endorsing a “white supremacist” with his performance as he demanded evidence for such claims. He added: “I’m not saying that he ain’t got some f—ed up ways, that’s why I’m not telling you who to vote for. What I’m saying is that he’s the president of the United States. He’s not the candidate for the United States-he’s the president. He won.”
