Significant concerns have arisen following the tragic deaths of two parents in a scalding hot bathtub after celebrating their daughter’s fourth birthday.
Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, aged 37, and his partner, Ana Carolina Silva, aged 41, were discovered in a tub containing water heated to 50 degrees Celsius. Postmortem examinations revealed the presence of cocaine and elevated levels of alcohol in their systems.
Despite assertions from Ana Carolina’s family that she was not a drug user, speculations of potential forced ingestion or poisoning have been raised.
Expressing deep concerns, the family released a statement denouncing the dissemination of false information and emphasizing Ana’s innocence regarding drug use.
Emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation, the family demanded transparency and impartiality to uncover the truth behind the tragic incident.
During a press briefing, Brazilian chief inspector Felipe Simao highlighted that the couple led an active social life but were not known to engage in drug consumption.
The couple had spent the day celebrating their daughter’s birthday at a food park before proceeding to a nightclub, leaving their child with Jeferson’s sister before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Santa Catarina state.
After failing to retrieve their daughter the following morning, concerned relatives reported them missing, leading to the discovery of their deceased bodies in the motel’s bathroom.
Authorities attributed the cause of death to heatstroke, exacerbated by the presence of cocaine and alcohol that may have impaired their ability to respond to the extreme heat conditions.
Investigators found the bathtub water temperature at 50 degrees Celsius and noted the high setting of a space heater in the room.
Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza stated that the cause of death for both individuals was exogenous poisoning, leading to heatstroke and organ failure.
Their four-year-old daughter is currently under the care of relatives following the tragic incident.
