“Mullen Reveals Key Trait of Mass Murderers”

Must read

A forensic psychologist with extensive experience studying numerous mass murderers has unveiled a key common characteristic among them. Professor Paul E. Mullen has conducted in-depth interviews with 10 of the most infamous lone mass killers in history, such as Martin Bryant, responsible for the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania, and Thomas Hamilton, the perpetrator of the Dunblane school shooting in Scotland.

Professor Mullen, an expert in criminal psychology hailing from Bristol, asserts that these killers are not incomprehensible monsters but rather individuals deeply affected by identifiable factors. When asked if these lone killers shared a common trait, he confirmed they did. He disclosed to the Mirror, “A prevalent psychological feature in these individuals is intense resentment towards the world at large.”

He elaborated, stating that grievance involves anger towards specific events or perceived injustices, while resentment is the ongoing dwelling on past grievances where the individual failed to react, usually out of fear of repercussions. Over time, resentment becomes a central aspect of how these individuals perceive the world.

Most mass killers, according to Professor Mullen, are socially isolated with few friends, viewing themselves as victims whose lack of success in life is due to the perceived malevolence of others. Many exhibit a fascination with firearms, with one killer he assessed even relocating from China to Australia to join gun clubs.

Furthermore, Professor Mullen noted that childhood abuse is not a prevalent factor among these individuals. He explained, “They typically belong to white middle-class families and often have normal or above-average intellectual capabilities, distinguishing them from the majority of violent offenders.”

Additionally, a significant number hold extreme right-wing political beliefs along with racist ideologies, while a minority adhere to fundamentalist religious views. Professor Mullen recently published a book titled “Running Amok,” delving into the minds of mass murderers, exploring their commonalities, and offering insight on recognizing warning signs and enhancing threat assessment.

When questioned about his interactions with these perpetrators, Professor Mullen described the encounters, emphasizing that despite their past violent actions, they present as frightened individuals without weapons during interviews. He highlighted that while they may attempt to mask their fear, they are more likely in need of help rather than posing any immediate danger.

For those interested, Paul’s new book “Running Amok” is now available for purchase.
