“MP Faces Accusations of False Charity Funding Claims”

Must read

A member of Parliament from Reform UK faces allegations of making false claims about securing funding for a local charity boxing club. Sarah Pochin asserted in a now-deleted social media video that she had helped Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) acquire funding to aid youth in the community. However, ABC refuted these assertions, stating that they had not received any funding from Reform.

The club demanded an apology from the MP, emphasizing that they operate independently as a charity with no political affiliations. Furthermore, they highlighted that Ms. Pochin had not obtained permission to film at their premises. In a statement on Facebook, ABC clarified that the claims made by the MP were entirely untrue, emphasizing their volunteer-run nature and their history of self-sustained operations.

After ABC’s denial was reported by local media, Ms. Pochin clarified that the funding she referenced was actually secured for Diverse Sports Runcorn (DSR), an entity operating within ABC but distinct from it. However, she later deleted this post following ABC’s repeated assertions that they had not received any financial assistance as stated.

In a subsequent Facebook update, Ms. Pochin acknowledged that no additional funding had been sourced for Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club or its associated programs, clarifying that the existing resources had been allocated for another year. The situation highlights the importance of accurate communication and transparency, particularly in dealings involving charitable organizations.
