“Motorist Fined for Middle-Lane Hogging on M6”

Must read

A motorist was recently stopped by the authorities on the M6 in Warwickshire and issued a citation for violating a traffic rule that they were likely unaware of at the time. The surprised driver was pulled over and given a ticket after receiving a warning from the police, who expressed concern about an increasing number of individuals driving in a similar manner on the highway. Law enforcement officials reported that the driver was traveling too slowly, maintaining speeds between 55mph and 60mph, and engaging in middle-lane hogging.

Warwickshire Police described the behavior as “poor driving standards” and highlighted a growing trend of motorists exhibiting similar conduct without understanding the associated risks. In a statement on their official Facebook page, the police department stated that officers from A Unit OPU observed a driver in the middle lane of the M6 Northbound traveling at speeds between 55-60mph without encountering slower traffic or roadblocks in the left lane.

The driver was escorted off the motorway and issued a ticket for failing to demonstrate reasonable consideration for other road users. It is anticipated that the driver may be required to attend a driver improvement course, for which they will be responsible for the cost. Authorities expressed concern over the increasing instances of drivers adopting similar practices, seemingly oblivious to the potential dangers involved.

The police emphasized that occupying the overtaking lane at speeds well below the limit without encountering slower traffic or obstructions to the left is considered substandard driving. They urged drivers to stay in the left lane unless actively overtaking or avoiding hazards to prevent receiving up to 3 penalty points on their license and a fine of £100.
