In a recent court appearance, a mother facing charges of torturing and killing her 8-year-old son shielded her face from view after the boy’s body was discovered inside a cooler filled with ice.
The boy, identified as Isaiah H, was found in the cooler at a residential complex on October 28, prompting murder and torture charges against the parents and grandmother. The grim discovery was made following a welfare check requested by a concerned neighbor.
During the court session, Destiny Luckie Harrison, 25, the mother of Isaiah, covered her face, while his father, Daniel Alberto Monzon, and grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno, did not attend.
Further charges of being accessories after the fact were filed against the pair by the Los Angeles County District Attorney. Nathan J. Hochman, the District Attorney, condemned the abuse suffered by Isaiah, emphasizing the betrayal by those entrusted to care for him.
The arrests of the trio took place on October 31, coinciding with their scheduled arraignment in Compton, southern Los Angeles. Monzon refused to appear in court, citing illness, while Harrison, though present, obscured her face with file folders.
Isaiah’s age was reported as eight, although confirming his identity proved challenging. Notably, there was no evidence of his attendance at a school. Following the discovery of Isaiah’s body, three other children, aged 16, 14, and 9, were found at the same residence.
One of the children reportedly witnessed the alleged abuse. Bail for the parents and grandmother has been set at $2 million each, with potential sentences of 32 years to life in state prison if convicted, as per the district attorney’s office.
