“Mistaken Releases of Sex Offenders Spark Outrage”

Must read

A sex offender identified as Brahim Kaddour-Cherif was mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth, a high-security prison in London, on October 29. Kaddour-Cherif, 24, was serving time for trespass with intent to steal and has a history of sexual offenses. The Metropolitan Police, confirming his Algerian descent, are conducting urgent inquiries to locate and return him to custody.

Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan, Labour MP for Tooting, expressed shock over the release of Kaddour-Cherif, citing his disturbing criminal record. She emphasized the need for explanations from the Government and Ministry of Justice regarding the incident.

In a similar incident, Hadush Kebatu, a convicted sex offender, was mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford in Essex and was later apprehended in a north London park after three days on the run. Kebatu, an Ethiopian national, had assaulted a 14-year-old girl and a woman in Essex and was serving a 12-month jail sentence. Following his capture, Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed Kebatu would be deported and called for measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

In a separate event in September 2023, Daniel Khalife sparked a manhunt after escaping from HMP Wandsworth by attaching himself to a delivery van. David Lammy expressed outrage over the recent mistaken releases, emphasizing the need for accountability and improved safeguards within the criminal justice system.

The incidents have prompted calls for investigations and reforms to address the persistent issue of accidental releases. Dame Lynne Owens will lead an independent inquiry to identify shortcomings and enhance public safety.
