Four individuals lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place in Mississippi during the early hours of Saturday, as confirmed by local authorities.

The shooting occurred on a primary street in Leland, as mentioned by Mayor John Lee, who noted that the town was particularly crowded due to Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston High School.

The perpetrator is currently at large, as per reports. In a Facebook post, the mayor expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event and announced the cancellation of a planned block party for safety reasons.

Mayor Lee informed CBS News that four of the injured victims were airlifted to nearby hospitals, although their current conditions remain undisclosed. No suspects have been apprehended by the police yet, and investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, Heidelberg, another town in Mississippi, experienced a shooting on Friday night. Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White disclosed that two individuals were fatally shot on the high school premises, with at least one more person sustaining injuries, as reported by WDAM.

Mayor Robert Barnett of Heidelberg affirmed the town’s commitment to collaborating with the school district and law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrator to justice, stating that such incidents are not tolerated in Heidelberg.

Barnett reassured the community that Heidelberg is a secure place and expressed regret over the unexpected event. Heidelberg and Leland are located three hours apart.
