A camper who went missing for nine days has been discovered alive after fearing the worst during the search. Troy Milne disappeared on October 7 while leaving his campsite near Melbourne to get supplies, causing concerns due to his diabetes. Surveillance footage showed him looking disoriented at a service station the day after he went missing.
After an extensive search by authorities, Troy was found on October 16 in the Gippsland region, over 200km away from where he was last seen. He had set a fire near his stuck Jeep to attract attention, eventually leading Forest Fire Management Victoria staff to his location.
Troy, who had been without his insulin for a week, shared that he survived by drinking water and lighting a fire to signal rescuers. He was taken to a local hospital where he was found to be in good condition despite his ordeal.
Officials praised the successful rescue, attributing it to Troy’s resourcefulness in signaling for help. They believe he became disoriented due to the lack of medication, leading him off track and into the wilderness. The fire he lit played a crucial role in his eventual rescue.
