“Migrant deported from UK reenters via Channel boat”

Must read

A migrant deported to France as part of the recent “one-in, one-out” arrangement has reentered the UK by crossing the English Channel on a small boat. Following his return, the individual has been apprehended, with plans underway by the Home Office to repatriate him to France once again. The asylum seeker, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed concerns about his safety in Paris as the reason for his return to the UK.

In an interview with The Guardian, the migrant stated that he felt unsafe in France and feared for his life due to the presence of dangerous smugglers wielding weapons and knives. He recounted a harrowing experience of being coerced by a human trafficking network in the forests of France before making the initial journey to the UK. The migrant claimed he was threatened at gunpoint and warned against any resistance.

Under a new bilateral agreement established in July, individuals arriving in the UK via small boats can be detained and sent back to France. The initiative aims to discourage the exploitation of migrants by human traffickers, with authorities looking to increase the rate of returns.

A spokesperson from the Home Office emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding borders and removing individuals lacking legal authorization to stay in the UK. The official warned that those returned under the program who attempt further illegal entries will face deportation.

In a separate development, Keir Starmer is in talks with leaders from the Western Balkans in London to discuss cooperation on migration and combating organized crime. The meeting comes amid reports of approximately 22,000 people being smuggled by criminal groups through the region last year.

The influx of migrants arriving in the UK via small boats has surpassed 36,000 in 2025, nearing the total recorded arrivals of 36,816 in 2024. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood criticized the previous government’s handling of border security, highlighting the current administration’s efforts to address the situation. Mahmood emphasized the importance of preventing illegal entries and reiterated the government’s determination to restore order at the border.
