Marcus Rashford saga takes new twist after Man Utd star’s secret transfer talks

Must read

Marcus Rashford has NOT closed the door on playing for Manchester United again despite holding talks over a January exit.

The United academy graduate, 27, has not featured for the first-team for over a month after Ruben Amorim questioned the player’s performances in training.

Rashford then fuelled talk of a move by admitting that he was ready for a new challenge just before Christmas. That admission has generated interest from several of Europe’s big guns and talks over a six month loan switch have since taken place with numerous suitors.

However, it has now emerged that Rashford has not completely shut the door on playing for United again ahead of their Europa League showdown with Rangers this week.

Rashford has even put in extra training ahead of the match incase he is called upon by Amorim. And it’s said he would have no problem playing for the Portuguese coach, who has effectively ostracised him from the first-team.

Rashford has been linked with a slew of Europe’s elite since confirming he would be open to seeking a new challenge away from an Old Trafford in an interview last month.

AC Milan are among the clubs who have held talks with his representatives over a switch, while Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest the forward, who has amassed 60 caps for England during his career. Indeed, Camp Nou was understood to be his No.1 choice – but Barca’s financial issue make a move for the £350k-a-week forward a non-starter at present.

It remains to be seen where Rashford will end up if he does end up deciding to move on from United before the transfer deadline in two weeks time, with Milan previously giving him until Monday to decide on a temporary move to Italy.

Rashford was once again absent on Sunday when United were beaten 3-1 at home by Brighton. Amorim was asked for the latest post-match and said of Rashford: “It is his choice [not to play].

“I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we lost, Rashford is not here. I don’t want to put this moment on Rashford. Rashford is out of this moment because he is not playing.

“No matter what, I am not going to put out a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”
