Man Utd in six-club transfer battle to sign Jack Grealish amid Marcus Rashford blow

Must read

Borussia Dortmund are considering a surprise move for struggling Manchester City star Jack Grealish – but Manchester United are among four Premier League clubs also monitoring his situation.

Dortmund are looking to bolster their attacking ranks during what has been an underwhelming Bundesliga season and the English winger has been identified as a target. Grealish has been in and out of the starting picture under Pep Guardiola.

Inter Milan are also keen on the ex-Aston Villa man, whose £100million price tag has continued to follow him around. Dortmund themselves have been looking at individuals they can bring in and have been among those linked with Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United forward hasn’t played for weeks after being dropped by Ruben Amorim. He’s been out in the cold but remains open to playing for the Red Devils again – even putting in extra training sessions in an effort to force his way back in.

Dortmund had been linked with a loan move for Rashford – and showed the Manchester outfit that they can make good of Old Trafford outcasts after helping Jadon Sancho rediscover his best form last season. Rashford has also been linked with a loan move to Italy, but nothing yet has materialised.

The Sun understands that Grealish is considering a fresh start of his own, with a move to Europe potentially on the cards. There is also domestic interest with former club Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham among those keeping tabs on his situation.

Whether United can persuade Grealish to make the move to Old Trafford remains to be seen, but the club are reportedly keeping tabs on his situation.

The 29-year-old has struggled for Guardiola’s side this season, starting 11 of his 20 games across all competitions. He’s scored just the one goal whilst adding a further four assists in his 1036 minutes of action. His only goal was a penalty in City’s 8-0 FA Cup win over League Two Salford – but it was his first in over a calendar year.

Worryingly for Grealish Guardiola has admitted that he’s behind Savinho in the pecking order as he challenged him to return to his previous level. He said: “I fought a lot for him [Grealish], fought a lot to be here – to say ‘come on, do it again, do it again’. I saw him, I saw your level and I want that, every single training session and every single game. If not, Savinho. Does anyone think Savinho doesn’t deserve to play? No. He deserves [it]. That’s why I play him because he produces.

“As much as he looks at himself, he will see the competition and he has to compete, himself. Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack and that’s why I played Savinho. I want the Jack that won the treble? Yeah. I want it. But I try to be honest with myself for that.”
