A man named Inigo Rowland, aged 58, faces charges of stalking for allegedly targeting Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey and his family. The arrest occurred on Monday following incidents that reportedly spanned several months this year.

Rowland appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and is scheduled for another court appearance in the upcoming week. Apart from the stalking charges, he has also been accused of possessing a flick knife, as stated by the Metropolitan Police.

Sir Ed Davey, who has been at the helm of the Liberal Democrats since 2020 and achieved a record-breaking outcome for the party in the last general election with 72 MPs, has refrained from making any public statements regarding the matter.

Regarding the incident, a party spokesperson mentioned that at present, no specific details can be shared, emphasizing that Ed Davey’s primary concern is the safety and well-being of his family. The Liberal Democrat leader resides in South West London with his wife Emily, daughter Ellie, and son John, who has special needs due to an undisclosed neurological condition requiring full-time care.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Inigo Rowland, a resident of Surbiton aged 58, has been formally charged with stalking and possession of a flick knife. Following his arrest on October 6, he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court and was remanded into custody. The next court appearance is scheduled for October 14. The offenses are alleged to have taken place between June and October.
