Lee Mack’s The 1% Club faces huge blow as John Bishop fronts rival quiz show

Must read

Lee Mack faces stern competition from his comedy rival – John Bishop.

While comic Mack fronts The 1% Club on ITV, fellow comedian John will now host an all new quiz show on ITV, Wisdom of the Crowd. The 1% Club sees 100 contestants start the show by answering questions which had been put to the public prior to filming. The number of contestants is narrowed down as they go head-to-head to make it to the final of the programme.

Those left are made to answer a question that only 1% of the nation can answer correctly, in return for having a chance to win an eye-watering £100,000. Now, a non-broadcast pilot for Bishop’s new show will take place in Manchester later this month, with applications to take part now open.

A teaser for the quiz show reads: “This quiz is all about making educated guesses – imagine a ‘guess how many sweets are in a jar’ competition, but on a grand Saturday night TV scale. We’re on the hunt for contestants eager to be part of the next big TV sensation.”

Meanwhile on The 1% Club, Lee was left completely taken aback when 15 contestants were eliminated during a round which saw the “easiest question” asked. He asked: “What food is represented here?” while contestants were shown images of a thermometer and a dog.

Lee playfully clarified, “To clarify that is not a sheep, that is a thermometer.” When time ran out, he announced: “Right let’s see how many people are still in the game and how many people are out,” only to discover in surprising fashion that 15 individuals had got it wrong. Lee expressed his astonishment openly, commenting: “15! You’ve got to be kidding me! I said to the producer, we can’t have this question because no one will get this wrong.”

Viewers were just as astounded to see the incorrect answers, with social media commentary quickly highlighting their shock. One viewer posted: “How do you get that wrong? #The1PercentClub,” while another chimed in with: “To the 15 of you that just got that last question wrong… #The1PercentClub.”

A third wrote: “”I’m still curious about what other answers were given to the Hot Dog question. #The1PercentClub,” whilst a fourth added: “#The1PercentClub 15 people out on this? Where are they getting the contestants from?” A fifth penned: “How did 15 people manage to get that question wrong? ! ? #The1PercentClub.”

In an intense conclusion to the show, the final contender, Connor, tackled the 1 Percent question. Having reached the final part of the game, he had already secured £10,000. Yet, Connor boldly rejected the guaranteed sum and took a gamble on the £97,000 prize. In a dramatic turn of events, his answer was incorrect, resulting in him leaving the competition empty-handed.
