Tech moguls Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook came together for Donald Trump‘s inauguration today – but their heads were turned for another reason.
Mr Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States at a ceremony in the rotunda of the US Capitol. The historic day began with an inaugural church service at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lafayette Square, across from the White House.
During the service, the Meta CEO, Amazon founder, and Apple CEO were pictured seated together as they watched events unfold. However, social media users were quick to spot the tech moguls getting distracted by Mr Bezos’ fiancée’s outfit.
Lauren Sanchez, a 55-year-old journalist, showed up to the event in an all-white ensemble. The press filmed her removing her white coat to show off her Alexander McQueen suit, which featured a white blazer and matching wide-leg trousers. But instead of a blouse, Lauren opted for a white lace bra.
Clips shared to X, formerly Twitter, show an awkward-looking Zuckerberg eyeing her daring outfit up and down. One user pointed out: “Bezo’s woman decided to just wear a bra under her coat. Zuck trying not to look. Elon staring down the barrel.”
Others showed support over her daring outfit choice, with one writing: “I think she looks beautiful. There’s hardly any cleavage, calm down folks.” While some people found it amusing, others were far from impressed.
One post read: “Jeff Bezos’s future wife Lauren Sanchez is incredibly inappropriately dressed for a state occasion. Someone should have told her that having her white lace bra out on display is not acceptable.”
Another quipped: “Seems @JeffBezos girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez’s, shirt was delayed by @amazon delivery. So, she just went with a jacket and bra. Classy.”
Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman arrived at the inauguration wearing just shorts and a hoodie with temperatures in Washington DC plunging to a frosty -6C. Photos showed the politician arriving at Trump’s inauguration wearing a black hooded top and grey shorts, both part of his trademark style since he was elected to office in 2023.
The Senator’s fashion choice stands in stark contrast to the overwhelming majority of attendees who were seen wearing suits and dresses. Temperatures in the US capitol fell to -6C today, but according to local reports it felt as cold as -11C. As a result, many of those attending today’s inauguration have wrapped up warmly for the occasion.
Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George Bush Jr were also among the attendees at the ceremony, which unusually is being held indoors in the Capitol Rotunda Hall due to the extreme weather. Trump’s former election rivals Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris were also in attendance.
After taking the oath of office, President Trump launched into a speech in which he outlined a sweeping raft of policies concerning trade, immigration and foreign policy – and pledged to send humans to Mars. Many of his priorities will seek to reverse policies brought in under the Biden administration as the President spoke of a new “golden age” of “common sense” for the US.
