An Israeli government official has disclosed that Tommy Robinson, a prominent far-right activist, has been extended an invitation to visit Israel, being hailed as a “sincere supporter.” Amichai Chikli, the Minister of Diaspora and Combating Antisemitism in Israel, made the announcement that he will host the “British patriot” on behalf of the state later this month. This announcement comes shortly after a terrorist incident outside a synagogue in Manchester.
Chikli emphasized that Israel and the Jewish community stand in solidarity with their allies in the United Kingdom following the “horrific” attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall.
In a social media post, Chikli praised Tommy Robinson for his bold stance against radical Islam, stating that during a time of increasing antisemitism in Europe, it is crucial to strengthen relationships with allies who speak out against such injustices. He described Robinson as a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people, unafraid to confront hatred and speak the truth.
The tragic incident outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The perpetrator, 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, was fatally shot by armed police at the scene. According to reports, Laurence Taylor, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, suggested that the attacker may have been influenced by extremist Islamist beliefs.
Taylor also confirmed that six individuals are currently under arrest on suspicion of involvement in acts of terrorism related to the attack. Adrian Daulby, a worshipper, and Melvin Cravitz, a security guard, lost their lives in the incident, remembered by their communities as caring individuals.
Tragically, Adrian Daulby and another bystander were accidentally shot by armed police while trying to prevent the attacker from entering the synagogue. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has announced an investigation into the incident.
