“Infected Blood Scandal Campaigner Surprised with Dream Cruise Holiday”

Must read

Michelle Tolley, a dedicated campaigner, received an award at the prestigious Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards for her unwavering efforts in seeking justice for over 30,000 individuals affected by the NHS infected blood scandal. Alongside fellow campaigners Andrew Evans and Jason Evans, Michelle was honored with a Special Recognition Award at last year’s ceremony.

During the award event, while watching another winner, midwife Agnes Nisbett, receive a cruise holiday prize from P&O Cruises, Michelle was pleasantly surprised when it was announced that all award recipients, including herself, would also be gifted with the same cruise holiday package for 2024.

Michelle’s journey to this joyous moment was marked by years of battling health issues and advocating for fellow victims while holding the government accountable. Infected with hepatitis C after a blood transfusion in 1987, she faced 28 years of health struggles before receiving a proper diagnosis and commencing treatment.

Driven by a desire to turn her anger into positive action, Michelle led support groups, collaborated with the Hepatitis C Trust, and contributed to the official government inquiry. Following these efforts, the news of a cruise holiday came as a much-needed respite for Michelle and her husband, Dean, who had not traveled abroad since their marriage in 1984.

While planning their Canary Islands cruise holiday courtesy of P&O Cruises, Michelle mentioned the idea of renewing their wedding vows. To her delight, the cruise company not only organized the vow renewal ceremony but also went above and beyond to make the experience truly memorable with a beautiful bouquet, photography sessions, framed photos, and special dining arrangements.

Embarking on the Ventura cruise ship, Michelle, whose only previous sailing experience was as a child, was awestruck by the ship’s grandeur and amenities. The couple savored every moment of their cruise, indulging in gourmet meals, exploring the ship’s offerings, and immersing themselves in the sights of Madeira and the Canary Islands.

Their adventures ashore included tours by taxi, tuk-tuk, and river boat, providing them with a deeper appreciation for the destinations visited. Michelle and Dean enjoyed a tuk-tuk tour in Las Palmas and a coach and river cruise in Lisbon, marveling at the scenic views and historical landmarks.

Enthralled by their cruise experience, Michelle and Dean are eager to embark on future voyages. Reflecting on their time aboard Ventura, Michelle highlighted the excellent service, delectable cuisine, and warm hospitality, encouraging others to consider a cruise holiday for its fantastic amenities and friendly atmosphere.
