“Infant from Finland Dies on Vacation in Crete”

Must read

A tragic incident occurred in Crete as a two-month-old infant from Finland passed away while on vacation with his parents. Greek authorities are investigating the situation, suspecting accidental smothering as the cause of death. The baby was found lifeless in a hotel room in Kalyves, near Chania. Emergency services were alerted, but unfortunately, they arrived too late to save the child.

Preliminary findings indicate that the baby may have died due to asphyxiation, with the possibility that the parents unintentionally smothered him while sleeping. The parents, in their mid to late 20s, were taken into custody for questioning but were later released. They are now facing charges of manslaughter by negligence pending further investigation.

The couple had attended a wedding and returned to their hotel room before the tragic incident occurred. The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs is monitoring the case closely. The baby, born in late July, and the parents remain unnamed due to privacy laws. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results and the full autopsy report to determine the next steps in the legal process.

The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the infant’s sleeping arrangements and whether external factors, such as alcohol or other substances, played a role. Finnish and Greek officials have not made further comments as the investigation continues.
