Hollie Doyle has shared her thoughts following the recent change in her role as the primary rider for owner-breeder Imad Al Sagar. Doyle, the most successful female jockey in Britain with over 1,000 wins, made history by winning the French Oaks, Prix de Diane, in 2022 aboard the Al Sagar-owned filly Nashwa. Nashwa played a crucial part in elevating Doyle’s career, securing three Group 1 victories, including the Nassau and Falmouth Stakes, before retiring.
Having been appointed as Al Sagar’s first retained jockey in 2020, Doyle rode 38 winners in that capacity. Despite her recent ride at Newbury finishing as a close second, Doyle’s contributions to Al Sagar’s racing team have been significant.
In preparation for the upcoming York Ebor Festival, which commences on August 20, 2025, top jockeys are gearing up for thrilling races. Champion jockey Oisin Murphy is set to ride Gamrai in a maiden race at Windsor, with the talented colt trained by John and Thady Gosden. Murphy will now primarily ride for Qatar Racing, marking a strategic shift in his racing commitments.
Imad Al Sagar’s racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe, explained that the decision to change jockeys was part of a new strategy. Expressing gratitude for Doyle’s contributions, Grimthorpe highlighted the successful partnership they had enjoyed, particularly with Nashwa’s notable wins. Al Sagar, after speaking with Doyle, acknowledged her significant role in the team and expressed hopes for their continued collaboration.
Doyle, in her blog for At The Races, expressed disappointment over the change in her retainer status. She thanked Al Sagar for the invaluable opportunities and successes they shared over the past five years, emphasizing her respect and well wishes for the future.
