“Haitian Fans Barred from US World Cup Entry Amid Ban”

Must read

President Donald Trump’s administration has announced that supporters from Haiti will not be allowed to enter the United States next summer, following the country’s qualification for the World Cup. The decision is in line with a travel ban signed by Trump in June, affecting individuals from 19 countries, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, and others.

While exemptions are made for players, coaches, and support staff for major sporting events, fans will not be permitted to attend the World Cup matches in person. Despite the ban, fans can still apply for visas and schedule interviews, although they may face difficulties in obtaining visas or entry into the United States.

Exceptions may be considered for applicants whose travel aligns with U.S. national interest, although such cases are expected to be rare. Haiti, having qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974, faces challenges due to ongoing gang violence, forcing the team to play home matches in Curacao, 500 miles away.

Trump recently met with the World Cup Task Force, discussing the economic opportunities the tournament will bring. The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, anticipates significant economic benefits, prompting Trump to inquire about the financial implications for the country. Sky has also announced discounted packages for the upcoming football season, offering a wide range of live matches across various leagues.
