‘Gripping’ mystery thriller that’s ‘perfect for the TikTok generation’ is now streaming on Netflix

Must read

A recent thriller film that scored rave reviews upon its release in 2023 is now easily streamable for anyone with a Netflix subscription.

Not only will it have you hooked the entire runtime, but it also has an incredibly unique gimmick that makes it stand out from other similar fare.

Originally released in 2023, this captivating entry in the ‘screenlife’ genre takes place entirely on a computer screen, smart phones or other devices.

Missing is a standalone sequel to the similar film Searching from 2018 and stars Storm Reid as 18-year-old June Allen who desperately tries to track down her mother when she disappears on vacation with her new boyfriend.

Despite being thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June uses every technological tool at her disposal to find her mother in Colombia and uncovers some startling secrets along the way.

The film currently holds an 88 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes (and a whopping 90 percent from audiences), so Missing is not one to skip now it’s been widely released on Netflix.

Empire called it “a gripping, well-told, incredibly watchable thriller for a new generation of TikTok sleuths – and a compelling argument to up your average screen-time.”

They also praised Reid’s “excellent and engaging performance”, adding “while both are stories about fractured relationships between parents and children being healed through a traumatic experience, Missing finds surprising, dramatically powerful ways to deepen that arc, with a final-act reveal that hits hard.”

One Google reviewer gushed: “Absolutely Amazing! Two hours of being on edge, unable to take your eyes off the screen!!

“Also an amazing writing voice that shows how great a storyteller the director is.

“The twists were shocking but smoothly paced although the main twist was a bit paralyzing to handle for a minute or two!!”

Fans have also been raving about Missing on the film social media platform Letterboxd, with one user saying: “Loved this!

“So well acted and edited plus it was incredibly tense and engaging the entire runtime.

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.

Sky Stream lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Day of the Jackal and the second season of Squid Game.

“The twists and turns and little lightbulb moments where something clicked were fantastic!! I loved piecing together the puzzle right alongside June.”

Another wrote: “Somehow this was even more thrilling and intense than its predecessor. Had my jaw dropping several times.

“And it’s all pulled together by an insanely good performance from Storm Reid.”

While a final fan teased: “The number of plot twists shocked me like my jaw was on the floor.”

Missing is available to stream on Netflix.
