A 21-year-old mother is facing charges of killing her two infants within a span of three years and displaying a dismissive attitude when authorities arrived at her residence.
Dakota Taylor, aged 21, was taken into custody on November 20 after an inquiry into the passing of her eight-month-old son, Caleb, in Jefferson County, Georgia, in January 2025. The infant was discovered unresponsive at a dwelling in Matthews and later succumbed at a nearby hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) disclosed that Taylor was already detained at the McDuffie County Jail at the time of her recent arrest. She was detained in connection with the demise of another child, Micah, aged seven months, in September 2021.
As per a grand jury warrant obtained by 14 News, Taylor was alleged to have caused Micah’s demise by deliberately obstructing his airways. The infant’s death had initially been classified as undetermined.
It has been revealed that Taylor resided at a group home with Micah when the tragic incident occurred. Detectives observed her peculiar behavior while the child was receiving medical attention and being transported in an ambulance.
Footage from police body cameras captured an officer noting Taylor’s nonchalant response when informed about her baby’s condition. Another officer described her demeanor as indifferent as they escorted the baby.
The investigation into the deaths of both infants led to Taylor’s arrest on charges of malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
According to the GBI, Taylor, a resident of Wrens, GA, was charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, and First-Degree Cruelty to Children by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The GBI assisted in probing the death of Taylor’s eight-month-old child in Matthews, Georgia.
Further inquiries into the case are ongoing, and individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the GBI’s Regional Investigative Office in Thomson. Anonymous tips can also be provided through various channels as detailed by the GBI.
