Geoff Burrow, the father of the late Rob Burrow, expresses solidarity with Lewis Moody following the England rugby icon’s recent disclosure of being diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). Moody, aged 47, shared his diagnosis in a poignant interview, becoming the latest ex-rugby star afflicted by the degenerative muscle-wasting ailment that claimed the lives of Doddie Weir and Burrow.
Geoff reached out to Moody after the emotional revelation, sharing a fundraising link for the rugby veteran and his family. In his message, Geoff conveyed his heartbreak over the news and urged support for Moody during this challenging period. The fundraiser aims to raise approximately £130,000 to assist Moody and his family in coping with the diagnosis and related expenses.
Previously, Rob Burrow and his former rugby league teammate Kevin Sinfield raised significant funds for charity and raised awareness about MND. They were both honored with a CBE for their charitable efforts and advocacy work before Burrow’s passing. Moody, on the other hand, shared his diagnosis in a moving interview with the BBC, expressing his apprehensions about the future.
Moody, a key player in England’s Rugby World Cup victory in 2003, enjoyed a successful career winning titles with Leicester and Bath. Reflecting on his rugby journey, Moody highlighted the challenges ahead while acknowledging the support from the rugby community and beyond in the fight against MND.
The support and solidarity shown towards Moody mirror the unity and strength within the rugby fraternity during challenging times.
