Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has opened up about how her new show was a “life-changing” experience.
The 47-year-old is set to appear in a new boating adventure alongside Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans, called Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea.
Taking a much-needed break from their busy schedule, the trip gives the pair the chance to reconnect with their Welsh homeland and spend some quality time together.
When asked what it was like to film the new series, actress Joanna said: “To be honest it was quite life changing filming the series, it was brilliant having such freedom, getting to go off on a boat with a really good friend of mine and just be free.
“I had no responsibilities other than not crashing Wayne’s boat, but it was a chance to sort of go back to the old me and rediscover myself again.
“I was learning new things to do with the boat, and then all of the water sports we did – the surfing and kayaking and paddleboarding, it was all things I’d never thought about doing before.”
The star also mentioned that although it was exhausting, she enjoyed the physical aspect of it all. She added: “It was so good to be doing something so physical, and right next to the sea air and being in the water, throwing your body around so much and doing a brand new physical sport that was so exhausting, doing stuff like that really takes you out of your mind and out everything you usually think about or worry about, out of your everyday things. It was great getting back to what life’s all about – having fun!
“On top of that, Wynne, who’s a MasterChef winner, would cook for me, we’d have lovely bottles of wine on the boat.”
Sharing his thoughts on the experience, Wynne said: “The series was the best fun I’ve ever had filming a TV series! We just got on from the start as we always have, and we laughed our way through the entire series. It was brilliant fun.”
Joanna was back on centre stage recently as she starred in the latest Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey.
Playing the role of Welsh native Stacey, this time, the story honed in on whether Smithy (James Cordon) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) would finally confess their love for one another.
Despite initial reservations, fans were left thrilled when Nessa and Smithy tied the knot.
Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea comes to BBC One, BBC One Wales and iPlayer from Monday 27 January at 8.30pm
