“Freely Challenges Sky with Free Streaming TV Box”

Must read

Sky has various options for streaming TV, such as its Glass TV and Stream box. These products provide access to premium channels and personalized recommendations. However, a new player in the market is set to challenge Sky’s dominance.

Freely, launched last year, allows UK households to stream live TV for free through compatible new televisions. By connecting to the internet, users can access live channels without the need for an aerial.

Previously, this service required purchasing a new TV, but Freely is introducing a new set-top box made by Netgem. This box will enable any existing TV in UK homes to access over 40 live channels without an aerial, directly competing with Sky’s Stream box.

The Freely box will offer a range of features, including a full TV guide, a Mini Guide for current and upcoming programs, viewing recommendations, live TV pause capability, and seven-day backward and forward functionality to watch previously aired content.

Freely promises regular updates to enhance features, channels, and content without any subscription fees, unlike Sky. Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, emphasized the importance of making free TV accessible to all households through plug-and-stream devices.

Sylvain Thevenot, Managing Director of Netgem U.K., highlighted the collaboration with Everyone TV as a significant advancement in delivering a streamlined TV experience over Wi-Fi at an affordable cost.
