A young woman who used to cheer for the University of Kentucky is facing serious charges after her flatmates found her newborn baby dead in a wardrobe while she went to pick up an order from McDonald’s. Laken Snelling, 21, has been accused of mistreating a corpse, tampering with evidence, and hiding the birth of an infant. The incident allegedly occurred in her bedroom where the body of the newborn boy was discovered by the authorities.
Reports suggest that Snelling gave birth in the early hours of August 27, with her flatmates hearing unusual noises coming from her room at that time. She admitted to the police that she fainted after giving birth and woke up to find the baby in distress. Feeling that the baby had died, she wrapped him in a towel and placed him on the floor for comfort before falling asleep again.
Upon waking up later, Snelling moved the baby and placenta to a wardrobe in a black bin bag. She then left her residence, missed a lecture, and ordered food from McDonald’s before being detained by the police upon her return. Investigation records reveal that Snelling made suspicious internet searches related to pregnancy and deleted labor images from her phone, indicating an attempt to conceal evidence.
During a subsequent visit to a medical facility, Snelling mentioned hearing the baby whimper, but the authorities found the infant deceased in the wardrobe. Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, she remains under house arrest after surrendering her right to a preliminary hearing.
