A man has been apprehended by the authorities for the alleged murder of his 17-year-old daughter, reportedly due to her desire to wed someone from a different caste. The grim incident involved the man shooting his daughter, concealing her body in a tarpaulin bag, adding stones to weigh it down, and then discarding it in a nearby river.
Following a neighbor’s tip-off about the girl’s disappearance since September 23, along with hearing gunshots and screams from the man’s residence on that day, the police initiated an investigation. Two days passed before the girl’s lifeless body was discovered on a Sunday morning.
Upon interrogation, the man’s evasive responses immediately aroused suspicion among the authorities. Subsequently, he confessed to the crime, admitting that he killed his daughter after a heated disagreement regarding her intention to enter into a relationship outside their caste.
Investigators claim that the accused perpetrated the act in front of the victim’s younger sister, packing the deceased girl’s body in a tarpaulin sack, securing it with a stone, and disposing of it in the river close to his ancestral village, Bhagwan Singh Ka Pura. The retrieved body underwent a postmortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Initial inquiries suggest that the girl’s wish to marry someone from a different caste led to the tragic outcome. A senior police officer revealed that despite attempts to dissuade her, she persisted in her decision, ultimately triggering her father’s fatal actions.
This distressing incident follows another case where a father from Pakistan, Anwar ul-Haq, was charged with murder for fatally shooting his 15-year-old daughter, Hira, in Quetta. Initially blaming unknown assailants, ul-Haq later confessed to the crime, citing objections to his daughter’s TikTok videos as the motive. Authorities are investigating further, including the possibility of an honor killing, given the family’s disapproval of the girl’s lifestyle and online presence.
