F1 Champion Jenson Button to Retire

Must read

Former Formula 1 champion Jenson Button has decided to retire from professional racing after a successful career that spanned many years. Button, who won the F1 title in 2009, bid farewell to the sport in 2016 but continued to compete in the World Endurance Championship. His final professional drive will take place at the upcoming eight-hour race in Bahrain.

Known for his insightful analysis on Sky Sports, Button is celebrated for his achievements in Formula 1, where he not only competed against but also triumphed over Lewis Hamilton. Starting his F1 journey with the Renault team in the early 2000s, Button missed out on the opportunity to be part of their dominant era after being replaced by Fernando Alonso.

Following his departure from Renault, Button found success with Honda, securing multiple podium finishes and claiming his first F1 victory in 2006. Despite facing uncertainties when Honda exited the sport in 2008, Button’s career took a remarkable turn when Ross Brawn acquired the team, leading to Button’s World Championship win with Brawn GP.

Transitioning to McLaren in 2010 as a reigning champion, Button faced tough competition from Hamilton but managed to showcase exceptional driving skills, notably in the 2011 season where he delivered remarkable performances, including a memorable victory in Canada. Throughout their time as teammates, Button outscored Hamilton, a feat achieved by only a few in F1 history.

Reflecting on his decision to retire from racing at the age of 45, Button emphasized the importance of spending time with his young family. He expressed his desire to be present for his children, acknowledging the sacrifices made during his racing career. As he bids farewell to the racing world, Formula 1 enthusiasts can enjoy live coverage of the sport with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering a comprehensive viewing experience along with access to additional entertainment channels.
