“European Defense Innovates with Compact Anti-Drone Missile”

Must read

A compact missile known as the “Mark 1” is being hailed as a potent European defense tool against Russian encroachments. Crafted by Estonian company Frankenburg Technology, this diminutive weapon, measuring just 65cm in length, is designed to target small Russian drones infiltrating European airspace.

Scheduled for deployment across Europe next year, the Mark 1 is tailored to counter the specific drone models employed by Putin’s forces in Ukraine. Equipped with solid rocket propellant and autonomous guidance systems, these missiles can accurately track and eliminate unmanned aerial vehicles like the Iranian-made Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 drones favored by Russian forces.

Operating within a two-kilometer range, the Mark 1 detonates its warhead one to two meters from the target, effectively neutralizing the threat posed by hostile drones. Kusti Salm, CEO of Frankenburg Technology, emphasized the critical role these missiles will play in countering Russian drone activities, which have penetrated deep into conflict zones.

Salm asserted, “We are unapologetic about producing weaponry explicitly designed to counter Russian drones operating within our territories.” As European nations grapple with escalating territorial violations by Russia, the need for advanced defense capabilities like the Mark 1 has become increasingly evident.

Recent incursions by Russian drones into European airspace, including incidents near Brussels airport, have prompted NATO responses involving costly jet deployments to safeguard Western borders. Sir Richard Knighton, the UK’s Chief of the Defence Staff, highlighted the importance of forging stronger alliances to confront hybrid threats and protect critical infrastructure.
