European Airports on High Alert: Drone Activity Halts Flights

Must read

Flight operations at a European airport have been temporarily halted following suspicious drone activity in the vicinity, marking the third such occurrence within a span of two days.

According to a spokesperson from Vilnius Airport in Lithuania, airspace restrictions were implemented after the detection of a drone within the airport’s vicinity.

Yesterday, Belgium experienced similar disruptions at two of its major international airports due to drone interference. Brussels Airport announced a temporary suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights due to drone sightings in the airport’s vicinity.

An update later issued by authorities mentioned delays, flight cancellations, and the potential continuation of disruptions into Wednesday morning.

As a precautionary measure, air traffic at Brussels’ second-largest airport, Charleroi, was briefly halted, with flights being redirected to Liege airport initially before it too was closed due to suspected drone sightings.
