Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU Commission, emphasized the need for Europe to recognize the increasing dangers, stating, “The recent airspace violations are part of a broader trend of growing threats. It is crucial to acknowledge this as hybrid warfare. Europe must enhance its capabilities to defend and secure our skies.” She also underscored the importance of unity in countering Russia’s attempts to create division.
Recent incidents in several European countries, including Belgium, Poland, Romania, Denmark, and Germany, have been linked to Moscow by European authorities, with drones detected flying over key locations.
Von der Leyen stressed that addressing Russia’s hybrid warfare tactics requires a shift in mindset. She highlighted the choice between passively observing Russian threats escalate or responding with unity, deterrence, and determination.
