“EDF Launches Sunday Saver: Get Up to 16 Hrs Free Electricity”

Must read

EDF has announced a promotion offering customers the opportunity to receive up to 16 hours of free electricity starting this weekend. This initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, rewards customers who shift their energy usage away from peak hours during the weekdays, typically between 4 pm and 7 pm, Monday to Friday.

Participants who reduce their energy consumption by 5% can earn four hours of complimentary electricity. Those who achieve a 20% reduction will receive eight hours free, while a 35% reduction earns twelve hours, and a 50% reduction results in 16 hours of free electricity.

To participate in the Sunday Saver program, customers need to manually sign up through their EDF account and have a smart meter that sends readings to EDF every 30 minutes. Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, emphasized the program’s aim to help customers save money and reduce their carbon footprint while supporting a more sustainable energy system.

Meanwhile, as winter approaches, energy bills are set to increase, with the Ofgem price cap rising from £1,720 to £1,755 for a typical dual fuel household paying by direct debit. This adjustment will take effect on October 1 and will be applicable until December 31, affecting customers on standard variable rate (SVR) tariffs.

While the price cap limits the charges for gas and electricity units, as well as standing charges, it does not cap the total energy bill based on actual consumption. Ofgem’s price cap estimation is based on the assumption that an average household consumes 2,700 kWh of electricity and 11,500 kWh of gas annually.
