Daniel Dubois has parted ways with trainer Don Charles following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois has now enlisted the help of former Anthony Joshua coach, Tony Sims, in an effort to revitalize his career. This decision comes shortly after Charles’ assistant trainer, Kieran Farrell, announced his departure from the team.
Dubois initially began training under Charles two years ago after being with Shane McGuigan and Mark Tibbs. Charles was in Dubois’ corner for his notable victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. Dubois claimed the world champion title after defeating Hrgovic, leading to Usyk relinquishing his IBF belt.
The first encounter between Dubois and Usyk took place in 2023, where Usyk defeated Dubois in the ninth round. Usyk then secured another victory by knocking out Dubois in the fifth round two years later. Dubois is not expected to make a return to the ring this year as he strategizes his comeback.
Following his loss to Usyk, reports surfaced that Dubois’ father hosted a gathering at their home just before the fight. Charles defended the gathering, emphasizing that it was not a party but a pre-fight energy-building event. He explained that similar gatherings had been held before Dubois’ successful fight against Anthony Joshua, attributing the positive energy to the fighter’s performance.
Charles clarified that he was not present at the gathering, focusing on ensuring Dubois was prepared in the dressing room. The emphasis was on maintaining the winning energy that had contributed to their past successes.
