A van driver narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation when a deer crashed through the windshield during a terrifying accident. The incident occurred in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, early Tuesday morning.
The deer’s antlers pierced the van’s glass after it suddenly appeared in the vehicle’s path, causing a high-impact collision. Fortunately, the 29-year-old driver sustained only minor injuries, while the deer suffered severe injuries and had to be euthanized by a hunter at the scene.
The collision caused extensive damage to the van, with repair costs totaling around €15,000 (£13,100). Firefighters were dispatched to clear the scene, leading to a temporary road closure.
Authorities in Germany are urging drivers to remain vigilant for wildlife encounters, especially on rural roads, emphasizing the potential dangers of unexpected animal crossings.
In a separate incident last month, a horse broke free from its cart during a funeral procession in Dublin, colliding head-on with a car. The chaotic scene unfolded in Clondalkin, a suburb west of Dublin, where the horse’s cart accelerated uncontrollably, resulting in the collision with a passing vehicle.
Following the incident, a prominent animal rescue charity, My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue, demanded an investigation, condemning the incident as an act of lawlessness and cruelty.
These incidents serve as stark reminders of the unpredictable nature of encounters between vehicles and animals, highlighting the importance of cautious driving and awareness of potential wildlife hazards on the roads.
