Heartfelt condolences are being expressed for a compassionate mother of two who tragically passed away during a routine surgical procedure.
Jane Neasham, aged 41, sadly lost her life after undergoing gallbladder surgery at University Hospital North Durham on December 18. She is survived by her grieving husband Michael and two teenage daughters, Delilah, 15, and Emmy, 13.
Known for her dedication to the community, Jane actively participated in advocacy efforts at St Leonard’s Catholic School in Durham, where she addressed infrastructure challenges. Engaging with policymakers, organizing WhatsApp groups, and advocating for parents were among her contributions.
Following discussions with her local Member of Parliament and current Education Secretary Bridget Philipson, Jane’s daughter Emmy recounted the admiration they had for her. Reflecting on her mother’s impact, Emmy shared a teacher’s praise for Jane’s exceptional advocacy work.
Describing her as exceptionally selfless, Jane’s brother Mark, 43, emphasized her unwavering commitment to fairness and justice. He fondly recalled their time spent together playing pool the night before her passing, highlighting Jane’s kind and generous nature.
Jane, a former Humanities teacher in County Durham who later worked as an education policy officer at Durham University, had relocated to the UAE in 2018 with her husband before returning to the UK in 2021.
Expressing profound sorrow over the loss, Jane’s sister Claire Wilson, 45, remembered her as a compassionate and cherished individual who will be deeply missed.
