Carrie Underwood’s hidden heartbreak, net worth and Trump inauguration fury

Must read

Singer Carrie Underwood will be performing for Donald Trump at his second inauguration.

The American Idol star will take to the stage and perform America the Beautiful alongside the likes of Nelly, Village People, Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jason Aldean at the US Capitol. Carrie had previously kept her political views private, having confessed to “try to stay far out of politics if possible”.

Some fans have criticised Carrie for supporting Trump, with some claiming her career is “over.” Carrie has built a successful music career following her American Idol win but away from the spotlight, she has had to deal with some devastating losses. Here is a look into Carrie’s life…

Carrie and husband Mike Fisher bravely opened up on their devastating miscarriages following the birth of their son Isaiah. She sadly had three miscarriages in the space of two years. In 2018, she told CBS News: “I was just sobbing. I was like, ‘Why on earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid?'”

The singer said she “got mad” at God and asked: “What is this? Either shut the door or let me have a kid. For the first time, I feel like I actually told God how I felt. That was like a Saturday – and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great. He heard me.” Carrie and Mike welcomed their second son in 2019.

The country singer is an eight-time Grammy winner, having won over fans on American Idol. She has become one of the best-selling artists of all time and has amassed an estimated net worth of $120million (approximately £98million). In 2007, NBC reported that contestants get paid once they reach the top 12 on American Idol.

The finalists are paid $921 (£756) each week for every hour-long episode. Carrie won the competition and received a recording contract with Hollywood Records, a label owned by Disney. She got $125,000 when she began working on her first album, an advance budget to be paid off later, and $125,000 when the album was completed.

Carrie has showed her support for Trump in the most public way possible by performing at his inauguration. She had previously poked fun at Trump, most notably at the 2017 Country Music Awards. During the show, she and Brad Paisley made light of the former Apprentice star.

They sang an updated version of her song Before He Cheats but altered the lyrics to mock Trump’s bizarre Twitter outbursts. “It’s fun to watch, yeah, that’s for sure, ’til little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war,” one lyric said. But it appears that she has now backtracked on her previous comments.

In a statement, Carrie explained the reason behind her deciding to perform for him. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she told PEOPLE. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to discuss the move, with some claiming that Carrie’s career is “over.” One user said: “Carrie Underwood’s career dropping to the lowest it’s ever been and she hasn’t had a hit song in over 10 years.” “Say bye-bye to your career!!!” said a second.

Meanwhile a third responded: “Carrie Underwood will perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration: ‘We must all come together in the spirit of unity’ Her career is over.” Another typed: “Carrie Underwood is preforming at Trump’s inauguration so I’m blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music.”
