A family of four who recently moved from the UK to Florida is starting to realize the ups and downs of their international relocation journey. While Emily, her partner Jay, and their two children have embraced the warm evenings and picturesque pond view from their new home, they have also encountered aspects of American living that they find challenging.
In a recent TikTok video, Emily shared “10 things we don’t like since we moved from the UK to Florida.” She expressed discomfort with the lack of privacy in public bathroom stalls due to visible gaps around the doors. Additionally, she noted the absence of WhatsApp in favor of text messaging, which she deemed as outdated.
Emily also raised concerns about the driving behavior in Florida, describing the drivers as aggressive and hoping to adapt to the local driving style. Another issue she mentioned was the frequent solicitation at their doorstep by businesses, which she plans to address by putting up a sign to deter unwanted approaches.
Furthermore, Emily highlighted the slow service at gas stations, where refueling the car with what she described as the “slowest pump ever” has proven to be a time-consuming task. She also pointed out the delay in receiving non-Amazon Prime mail deliveries, emphasizing the abundance of bugs at night in Florida and expressing discomfort with encountering snakes on their property.
Lastly, Emily mentioned the complexity of the healthcare system, citing excessive paperwork as a challenge that they aim to navigate over time. Despite these hurdles, she emphasized that their move to Florida has been the best decision they’ve made, expressing love for their new life in the United States.
