Must read

British Airways has made a significant announcement regarding its in-flight Wi-Fi services. The airline disclosed that it will provide complimentary onboard Wi-Fi with high-speed capabilities for video streaming following a partnership agreement between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink.

The airline has confirmed plans to roll out this technology on its flights starting next year as part of a larger transformation initiative valued at £7 billion. International Airlines Group, the parent company, has inked a deal with Starlink to equip over 500 aircraft in its fleet with internet access.

Starlink, a satellite-based system owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will power the enhanced Wi-Fi services for British Airways passengers. Travelers can soon expect seamless Wi-Fi access across all cabins without requiring a special login, a significant upgrade from the current limited Wi-Fi offerings on most of the airline’s fleet.

The upgraded services will range from complimentary text messaging for loyalty program members to packages enabling passengers to stream music, videos, and movies at prices ranging from £4.99 to £21.99 based on duration.

Sean Doyle, the chief executive of British Airways, expressed excitement about the partnership with Starlink, emphasizing the transformative impact on customer experience. The introduction of Starlink on both long-haul and short-haul flights is set to provide lightning-fast and low-lag internet connectivity throughout the journey, even over remote regions and oceans, enhancing the overall in-flight experience.

This collaboration with Starlink comes on the heels of British Airways’ recent announcement of a new transatlantic flight route connecting London Heathrow to St Louis in Missouri. Scheduled to commence on April 19, 2026, the new route will operate four times weekly during the summer season, offering travelers access to the vibrant city known for its iconic Gateway Arch and lively neighborhoods.

Neil Chernoff, the Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, highlighted the strategic significance of adding St Louis to the airline’s US network, emphasizing the city’s historical and cultural appeal as well as its role as a gateway to other exciting destinations.

British Airways, boasting the most extensive coverage of American cities among UK airlines, is set to become the sole UK carrier offering direct flights to St Louis, marking its 27th destination in the US.
