Bolton Wanderers have parted ways with Ian Evatt following a series of poor results that led to his dismissal. The decision was made after an emergency board meeting convened in response to a 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic, marking only two victories in the last nine matches for the team.
Despite initially holding a favorable League One position at ninth place, Bolton’s recent downward spiral saw them slip from playoff contention. Evatt faced criticism for directing an expletive-laden remark at home fans during a recent match against Cambridge United, where discontent among supporters was evident.
Prior to his departure, Evatt ranked as the fifth longest-serving manager in the football league, having helmed the club for four years and 204 days, overseeing 261 matches. Notably, the former Premier League player guided Bolton to League One promotion and secured the Papa Johns Trophy at Wembley in 2023. Despite two consecutive playoff appearances, Bolton fell short in the final against Oxford United, missing out on a Championship spot.
In his departing statement, Evatt expressed gratitude for his time at Bolton Wanderers Football Club, acknowledging the support received from the board, staff, players, and fans. He emphasized the need for change in football and aimed to preserve the club’s achievements moving forward.
Sharon Brittan, the Bolton Chairman, lauded Evatt’s efforts in rebuilding the club both on and off the field, praising his professionalism and dedication during his tenure. She highlighted his lasting impact and wished him success in his future endeavors.
