A woman in Australia, Marcela Montalva, faced a life-threatening encounter with a magpie, leaving her with severe injuries. Montalva, who recently relocated to the remote town of Ravenswood in the Australian Outback, was on a working holiday visa to explore the country’s beauty.
During a leisurely bike ride to the post office, Montalva was unexpectedly attacked by a magpie, causing her to lose control of her bike and crash onto the road. She suffered significant injuries, including fractures to her cheekbone and a rare neck bone fracture.
After being airlifted to Townsville University Hospital, doctors emphasized the severity of her injuries, highlighting the critical need for facial reconstructive surgery. Despite her insurance denying coverage due to a technicality, Montalva has managed to raise $12,000 (AUD) through crowdfunding for her medical expenses.
Expressing disbelief at the incident, Montalva stressed the unforeseen nature of the bird attack and the resulting serious accident. The funds raised will be crucial for her recovery, enabling necessary surgical procedures to restore her ability to eat and speak normally.
